What is an Ilex latifolia tree?

Do you know what kind of tree Taraha is?

Ilex latifolia is an evergreen tree, and the flower language begins with "tell" and is the origin of the word "leaf" in postcards.

Postcards began in the Heian period. It is said to be started by scratching the back of the leaves of Ilex latifolia with a tree branch, writing words, and handing them over to the others. In fact, the leaves of Ilex latifolia contain special ingredients. When they are scratched, the color turns black in a short time and the characters appear immediately, do not disappear and remain for a long time. Thus it has come to be selected as a leaf to keep words.

■ Japanese name: Tarayo

■ Scientific name: Ilex latifolia

■ Attribute: Aquifoliaceae Ilex genus

■ Evergreen tree

It is an evergreen tree with a trunk height of about 10 m and blooms pale yellow flowers from April to May. The leaves of Ilex latifolia are thick and have a long and thin oval shape of about 20cm, and the edges of the leaves are notched. When the back of a leaf is scratched, it turns black in a short time and has the property of clearly appearing. In autumn, it produces round red fruits of about 8 mm.
